Chiang Mai is a long way north of Bangkok, but it’s on the main road network, so there’s no ferry in the way. Your parcel travels with a local courier, Kerry Express or Flash Express, and usually arrives in 2–4 days. Standard delivery is free.

Our express service by Grab only runs inside Bangkok, so plan a few days ahead. The manager will give you a delivery date before you pay.

Staying a month or longer

Chiang Mai draws a lot of long-stayers: remote workers in Nimman, retirees in Hang Dong, people on monthly leases in Santitham. If that’s you, one bigger order is easier than several small ones.

• TEREA is sold by the carton (10 packs). From 2 cartons, Indonesian and Malaysian TEREA cost 2,400 THB (about $70) per carton, and Japanese TEREA 2,600 THB (about $76).
• Returning customers get discounts, and so does anyone ordering 10 cartons or more. Ask the manager for details.
• In a condo, the juristic office will usually sign for you if you’re out.

Flying straight into CNX

Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) also takes direct international flights from other Asian cities. If you land here from abroad, CNX is where you clear Thai customs, and customs is where the vape ban is enforced most strictly. A device found in your luggage is confiscated, and you may be fined.

If you fly in from Bangkok, the flight is domestic and there’s no customs check at CNX, but you’ll already have passed through customs in Bangkok. A note on burning season

Roughly February to April, farm fires across the north fill the valley with haze, and a lot of people spend more of the day indoors. Keep in mind that Thai law bans smoking inside hotels and restaurants, and condos set their own rules about balconies. Use a designated smoking area rather than risk a cleaning fee.

• TEREA in Japanese, Indonesian and Malaysian versions, sold by the carton. A single carton starts at 2,550 THB (about $74), and the TEREA page lists every flavor.
• Disposable vapes at 600 THB (about $17) apiece when you take 4 or more. Stock is usually a single brand at a time, so check today’s brand and flavors with the manager.

The rules in Chiang Mai

The national ban covers Chiang Mai like everywhere else: vapes and heated tobacco are formally illegal to import and sell. On the street, the usual outcome is being asked to put it away. A fine is possible, typically 5,000–30,000 Thai baht according to the UK Foreign Office.

One local point: the Old City has dozens of active temples. Smoking or vaping on temple grounds isn’t something the law spells out, but it’s disrespectful, so step outside the gate first.
